Take a Number

Take a Number explores the relationship between desire and disgust as it relates to capitalism. By photographing still lifes of dead things and patriarchal symbols coupled with collaged images of 50’s inspired domestic conveniences, I question the space between the origin (patriarchal capitalism — advertisement — creating demand from where there is none solely for monetary gain) and immediacy of desire and the long term effects of their destruction. The dead objects will all be purchased in a supermarket and the collaged images will be printed out from a Google image search to reinforce the notion of convenience.
